About the Course
Introduction to Biology
Different scientific methods have helped biologists to research and study biology and life. Advances in these methods occur every day. Based on some research, we now know that our body needs and is formed of different biomolecules. This unit will cover what biology is, different scientific methods and the biomolecules that the living organisms need. The unit will also explain the organization and interdependence of the living organisms covering the learning outcomes of grade 9-10 biology.
Cell Structure and Function
Cells are the smallest unit of life, but that doesn’t mean they are simple! This unit explores the structures of different cells and how these structures enable them to perform specialised functions. Learners will also discover some important cellular processes, including cell division, differentiation, and transport. This course is aligned with the learning objectives of high school Biology. It also provides an excellent foundation for anyone who wants to understand the key principles of cell biology and how they apply in the real world.
Energy for Biological Processes
All of us need energy to perform different activities, including walking, running, dancing and playing around. This energy is made up in the cells of the body by a process known as cellular respiration. Though plants don’t walk and dance like us, they still need energy for necessary functions like photosynthesis. This unit will introduce the learner to metabolism and make them understand the process of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, covering the learning objectives of grade 9-10 biology.
DNA is the molecule that makes every individual unique and determines the characteristics. Another similar molecule is RNA. This course allows the learner to know the details about the structure and function of these two molecules, along with the details of the processes by which they are formed. This unit also covers the structure of the chromosome and the concept of genetic code. At the end of the unit, the learners will have a clear understanding of molecular biology and its role in the organisms covering the learning outcomes of grade 9-10 biology.

Students of this high school level course will learn about how DNA is passed on to offspring by reproduction and how our genes control our characteristics with the help of Mendel’s experiments and laws. This course will also allow students to develop their understanding of various inherited disorders, and biotechnology. Also, it will cover the two types of linkages involved in inheritance, the genetic linkage and sex linkage.

Similarly, a lot of changes are seen in the entire species over several generations. This process is evolution and is based on the concept of natural selection. This unit also covers the details about the origin of life and human evolution.
Classification of Organisms
Have you ever wondered about the number of species that are present on the earth? They are approximately 8.7 million in number. So, how can we remember such a huge number of organisms? To make this easier, these species of organisms are classified into different categories based on their similarities. This unit covers all living organisms’ classification at different levels covering the learning outcomes of grade 9-10 high school biology.
Plant Biology and Physiology
Humans need different body systems to perform various roles in the body. Similarly, plants need different systems too. However, these systems are not the same in plants. Plants have different organs and organ systems that help them perform roles such as transport, respiration, and photosynthesis. At the end of this unit, learners will have a solid understanding of the plant’s organs and organ systems along with their roles. The course also covers different plant hormones and the process of plant growth. The learner will also learn the process of reproduction seen in plants.
To protect our planet from the effects of climate change, we need to understand how organisms interact with their environment. This unit provides learners with the resources required to meet the learning objectives of the grade 9-10 ecology unit. These include understanding how ecosystems are organised, the importance of biodiversity, and how energy is transferred through ecosystems. The course also includes different biogeochemical cycles that occur in the environment. Finally, this course discusses how human activities impact ecosystems and how we might maintain both biodiversity and food security in the future.
Form and Function in Humans
The human body has different organ systems that perform special roles and help the body’s proper functioning. A few systems are also responsible for the form of the body. This unit covers all these systems that help the human body function. At the end, the learners will have a deep understanding of the structure and functions of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory and musculoskeletal systems of the body. The course will cover the learning outcomes of grade 9-10 high school biology.
Control and Coordination in Humans
Many say that achieving happiness in life is all about finding the right balance; the same is true for living things! This course allows learners to discover the control systems in place to keep the body in an optimal state, including the coordination of the nervous and hormonal systems of the human body. It also covers the process by which the human body maintains a stable and relatively constant internal environment, homeostasis. By the end, learners will have a solid understanding of many of the functions these systems regulate, including reproduction, blood sugar levels, and body temperature. The content covered is in line with the learning outcomes of the corresponding Grade 9-10 Biology unit.
The Immune System and Immunity
Understanding how the body responds to external pathogens has never been so crucial as it is in a post-pandemic world. By the end of this unit, learners will recognise the structure of the immune and the lymphatic system of the human body. Additionally, this unit describes the immune response in the human body, along with various allergies and autoimmune diseases. It also details how science has helped us develop vaccines and drugs to prevent and treat infectious diseases.
Reproduction and Birth Control in Humans
Like all animals, the human body can reproduce and give birth to its own babies. This is possible because of the reproductive system. This course will cover various activities that make the reproductive system capable of giving birth to babies. This will also cover various methods developed by us to control the birth of the babies. At the end of this unit, the learner will have a deep understanding of puberty, menstrual cycle, contraceptive method, and in-vitro fertilization techniques that are meet the learning objectives of the grade 9-10 curriculum.
